Leadership and the Challenge of Change

Conference sessions focused on leadership, future challenges of government and the public sector, and reform in development. His Excellency, Siale'ataongo Tu'ivakano, Prime Minister of Tonga, gave the keynote address on 'Change and Leadership in the Pacific'.
Presentations from the DLP team included the following:
Dr David Hudson, DLP's Deputy Director of Research, spoke on the role of leadership in development and change, drawing on the findings from DLP's research.
DLP Research Fellow Dr Niheer Dasandi led a breakout session on how, where and why reforms succeed or fail, with a particular focus on the role of politicians and government officials. He drew on his forthcoming DLP 'State of the Art' paper on political-bureaucratic interaction.
DLP Research Fellow Dr Caryn Peiffer led a breakout session on lessons for successful coalition-building across the private and public sectors. She drew on her ongoing work for DLP on the role of the private sector and reform coalitions in bringing about sustainable development outcomes.
