Shivit Bakrania

Shivit Bakrania is a freelance research consultant and analyst, and an honorary research associate at the International Development Department, University of Birmingham. He specialises in conflict, security and development, with interests in: the politics of security and justice provision; how participatory approaches can help to improve safety, security and access to justice; ethnic and communal conflict; and urban violence.

Shivit previously managed the Global Facilitation Network for Security Sector Reform (GFN-SSR), based at the University of Birmingham. As a freelance consultant, he has undertaken research assignments for a range of donors, including DFID, the Government of Australia and the EC. He was also an integral member of the team that delivered the UK Government’s Security and Justice course from 2010 to 2012. Shivit has experience of working in India, Pakistan, South Sudan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Ethiopia and Mozambique. Before becoming a researcher and analyst, he worked for a range of NGOs and community foundations in the UK and in India as a community development worker.
